Mo Haintz and Kristie Kennedy Crowned Champions at 2026 Goldfields Classic

The 2026 Goldfields Classic has concluded after three outstanding days of golf across the January long weekend, with Mo Haintz (Mt Xavier GC) and Kristie Kennedy (Ballarat GC) claiming the championship trophies in a tournament that continues to grow in stature.

Now in its second year, the Goldfields Classic has firmly established itself as a key event on the Victorian Open Age Order of Merit calendar. Proudly conducted by Ballarat District Golf and supported by National Tiles, Solomons Flooring & Sultan’s Blinds and Drummond Golf Ballarat, the event attracted a strong field of 147 players competing at Ballarat Golf Club, Buninyong Golf Club and Midlands Golf Club.

Div 1 - Ballarat Golf Club

Strong Start at Ballarat Golf Club

The opening round at Ballarat Golf Club set the stage for a highly competitive championship. In the Men’s Gross Event, Brenton Walker (Mt Xavier GC) produced an impressive round of 2-under par to open up a three-shot lead. In the Women’s Gross Event, Kristie Kennedy posted a solid 6-over par round to take a narrow one-shot advantage.

Momentum Shifts at Buninyong

Round two at Buninyong Golf Club saw significant movement on the leaderboard. Mo Haintz surged into contention with an outstanding performance to take a one-shot lead into the final round, ahead of Aaron James (Eynesbury GC). Daniel Staples (Woodlands GC) and Corey Haase (Midlands GC) remained within striking distance, three shots further back.

In the Women’s Championship, Kristie Kennedy strengthened her position with another consistent round, extending her lead to three shots over Helen Pascoe (Buninyong GC) heading into the final day.

Champions Emerge at Midlands

The final round at Midlands Golf Club delivered a fitting conclusion to the championship.

In the Men’s Championship, Mo Haintz produced a commanding performance to claim the Chris Tatt Perpetual Trophy. Beginning the day with a one-shot advantage, he accelerated away from the field to secure an emphatic eight-shot victory. Aaron James finished runner-up, while Sean Klain (Ballarat GC) claimed third place.

The Women’s Championship remained a closely fought contest throughout the tournament. After three days of quality golf, Kristie Kennedy pulled clear in the final round to secure the Helen Pascoe Perpetual Trophy by five shots over Helen Pascoe.

A Growing Championship

The continued success of the Goldfields Classic reflects the strength of golf throughout the region and the collaboration between Ballarat District Golf and its affiliated clubs. A sincere thank you goes to Ballarat Golf Club, Buninyong Golf Club and Midlands Golf Club for presenting their courses in excellent condition and providing outstanding hospitality throughout the event.

The Ballarat District Golf – Executive Committee also acknowledges the efforts of the Tournament Committee, Bailey Holloway, Brett Kerry, Corey Haase and Tim Steele, whose dedication and hard work ensured the successful delivery of the championship.
