2018 Midweek Pennant Finals

The Ballarat District Golf Inc. Women’s Mid-Week Pennant season concluded last Monday. Throughout the season 20 teams from 9 Clubs were divided into three divisions to contest the round robin competitions. A total of 145 players battled individual games each week to contribute to their team’s result at the end of the day. The season proved to be very closely contested, with participation in the final being decided by countbacks in both divisions two and three.

The Finals were held in overcast damp conditions at a very well presented Buninyong Golf Club course on Monday 21st May. All players embraced the final with much enthusiasm at the start of the day. After many close individual matches, the three teams that finished on top of the ladder ended up being defeated by their opposition teams.

The Division One match contested between Ballarat and Midlands (Gold) came down to the wire. Three of the last four individual matches being decided either on the 18th or 19th hole, with all three going Midlands way to cement a victory to Midlands (Gold) 3 - 2. This gave Midlands their third Division One win in four years.

The Division Two match contested between Beaufort and Ballarat (Red) saw four of the five individual matches finish on the 18th or 19th hole. With the match tied at two all, Pauline Murphy headed up the 19th hole to secure a win for Ballarat (Red) 3 - 2. This is the fourth year in a row that Ballarat have won the Division Two trophy.

The Division Three match was contested between Buninyong and Hepburn Springs. With Buninyong having the home ground advantage they were closely overrun by Hepburn Springs who overcame a slow start to the season to claw their way in to the final and ended up winning 3 - 2. This is the third time in four years that Hepburn Springs have won the Division Three trophy.
