Buninyong wins 2024 Junior Pennant

Buninyong Golf Club and Bacchus Marsh West Golf Club played out a brilliant 2024 Junior Pennant Final on Sunday 24th March at the Ballarat Golf Club with Buninyong claiming the title in a playoff after the teams finished tied on three wins each.

Buninyong won the first three matches of the day before Bacchus Marsh West stormed back into contention. When Harry Cowan (Bacchus Marsh West) defeated Jackson Tatt (Buninyong) on their 19th hole, Bacchus Marsh West had claimed the last three matches, and we were left with a playoff to determine the winner.

The respective team managers selected Jackson and Harry to contest the playoff starting on the 18th hole. Jackson hit his tee shot down the right whilst Harry found a fairway bunker on the left with his tee shot. Unable to reach the green, Harry laid up. Jackson hit his second shot to the right-hand edge of the green.  Harry then hit a magnificent approach shot to eight feet. Jackson missed his lengthy birdie putt by the barest of margins and the par putt was conceded. Unfortunately, Harry missed his par putt to take the playoff to another hole and Buninyong were the winners.

It was great to see so many families and members from Buninyong and Bacchus Marsh West out on the course supporting the two teams.

Congratulations to Anna Inglis (Buninyong GC) and Mitchell Wells (Bacchus Marsh West GC) on winning the 2024 Junior Pennant Player of the Season awards.

Congratulations also to Josh Nalder (Maryborough GC) on acing the 193-metre 12th at Bacchus Marsh West Golf Club, the third hole in one of the Junior Pennant / MyGolf Junior League season.

It takes a considerable amount of effort to conduct the Junior Pennant competition each year and we wish to thank:

  • The Junior Development Committee consisting of Andrew Cartledge, Tony Collier, Bailey Holloway and Jeanette Tocchet for coordinating the competition
  • The clubs who fielded a team – It was great to have Chalambar back in the competition
  • The managers for organising their teams each week
  • Maryborough Golf Club, Midlands Golf Club, Buninyong Golf Club, Bacchus Marsh West Golf Club, Mt Xavier Golf Club and Ballarat Golf Club for hosting the matches

Congratulations to both teams on contesting a brilliant final and well done to Buninyong Golf Club on winning their first Junior Pennant title since 2022.
