2017 Charleson Hunt Pennant


The competition continued at Lexton from the previous week at Maryborough in cloudy, calm conditions, ideal for golf.

Round Three of Matches in the Charleson saw Maryborough’s Team M. Lowday, R. Daniel, A. Balzan, S. Argall, F. Pascoe 4 matches to Lexton’s Team of K. Aldenhoven, G. Gullock, B. Sandlant, V. Bradley with 1 win.
With Beaufort’s Team of T. Grundell, N. Compston, H. Wilson, G. Kramer, J. Stimson 5 matches to Talbot’s Team of B. McLean, T. Deans, R. Arnold, D. Ford, A. Browning 0 matches.

In the Hunt Shield with teams close on the ladder the Beaufort Team of P. Packham, M. Swift, B. Campbell, B. Charmings, and K. Trounce won three matches to Lexton’s Team of D. Allison, Mal Sandlant, R. Hopcroft, J. Porter and Myles Sandlant 1 match.

In the other match Maryborough’s R. Bird, R. Clegg, T. Leech, S. McNaught and B. Patten won three matches to Clunes two.

This resulted in Clunes 4 points 10 matches, Beaufort and Maryborough both on 4 points 8 and a half matches to be separated on percentage saw Maryborough to play Clunes in the final during the afternoon.

The Clunes Team of D. Marshall, K. Steart, L. Lees, R. Skinner and L. Marshall defeated Maryborough’s R. Bird, T. Leech, R. Clegg, S. McNaught and D. Leddin 4 matches to 1 giving the 2017 Hunt Shield to Clunes.

The afternoon final of the Charleson Shield saw Beaufort’s T. Grundell, J. Stimson, N. Compston, H. Wilson and G. Kramer 3 matches won and 2 square matches defeated Maryborough’s M. Lowday, R. Daniel, A. Balzan, S. Argall and F. Pascoe 2 square matches thus giving Beaufort the 2017 Ralph Charleson Shield, having won all of their preliminary matches and the final.

The Ian Zimmer Award for 2017 went to Marc Lowday from Maryborough.

Fine mild conditions greeted golfers at the well presented Maryborough Golf Course for the first and second rounds of Charleson/Hunt Pennant competition.

The Charleson matches played in the morning:

The Beaufort Team of N. Compston, J. Stimson, R. Cowie, H. Wilson and G. Kramer proved too strong for Lexton’s K. Alderhoven, A. Smith, C. Murray, B. Sandlant and V. Bradley.
Beaufort 4½ def Lexton ½.

Maryborough 3½ M. Lowday, R. Daniel, A. Balzan, S. Argall and F. Pascoe defeated Talbot’s Team of B. McLean, T. Deans, R. Arnold, D. Ford and A. Browny with 1½.

The afternoon Charleson matches saw Talbot have a clean sweep defeating Lexton 5 to nil. Beaufort 3 defeated Maryborough in the other match.

In the Hunt Section:

The Beaufort Team of P. Packham, C. Perks, M. Swift, B. Campbell and K. Troune won 3½ to Maryborough’s 1½ team R. Bird, T. Leech, R. Clegg, S. McNaught and B. Patten.

Clunes had a good win with R. Dixon, K. Steart, L. Lees, R. Skinner, G. Rowland 4 matches to Lexton’s 1 win

Maryborough’s Hunt Team also won over Lexton 4 to 1 in the afternoon match with Clunes 3 matches to Beaufort’s 2 in the other match.
