2015 news genericTen players from Ballarat District Golf affiliated clubs have been selected in our Boys Representative Team to compete at the Golf Australia – 2019 Victorian Junior Boys Country Regions. The competition will be played at the Cobram Barooga Golf Club on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th May.

Our team consists of Paddy Murphy (Ballarat GC), Kacee Kirwan-Hamilton (Ballarat GC), Joel Smith (Buninyong GC), Jarryd Martin (Bacchus Marsh West GC), Ryan Wilson (Mount Xavier GC), Liam Howlett (Ballarat GC), Nicholas Crellin (Ballarat GC), Charlie Bissinella (Mount Xavier GC), Thomas Yorke (Ballarat GC) and Manish Puvanendran (Maryborough GC). Andrew Cartledge will again serve as our coach.

The Junior Boys Country Regions are played annually between teams from Victoria’s country district golf associations. Associations are represented by teams of boys aged under 18 who compete over two rounds. For each round, the top six scores count as the team score for the stroke competition and the top six nett scores count as the team score for the nett competition.

Our team will be led by Paddy Murphy, the number one ranked boy locally and reigning Under 18 and Under 15 District Champion. Paddy first played in the competition in 2017, after receiving a late call up. Now playing off a handicap of three, his development has been significant. The ultra-consistent Jarryd Martin and the ever-improving Nicholas Crellin are also representing the District for a third time.

Kacee Kirwan-Hamilton, Joel Smith and Charlie Bissinella were each a part of our 2018 team and this time around have a much clearer understanding of what is required to compete successfully at this level.

Our debutants this year include Ryan Wilson, Liam Howlett, Thomas Yorke and Manish Puvanendran. Ryan is ranked number five locally, whilst Liam at only 12 years of age is already ranked number six.

With an average age of just under 15 and an average handicap of 10.2, we recognise that our team is at least 12 months away from challenging for the stroke title, however with eight associations competing, a top four finish is achievable. Each of our players are well prepared, having played a significant amount of golf in the lead up to the competition and if we perform to our potential, challenging for the nett title is a distinct possibility.

Most of the boys in the team have built strong friendships with each other over the last few years through playing Junior Pennant and in local tournaments, and there is a strong resolve to perform well, both collectively and individually.

The team will round out its preparation with a training day to be held at the Midlands Golf Club on Saturday 4th May. The day will be conducted by Andrew Cartledge and include an 18-hole Stableford competition and an education session.

Congratulations to all the boys selected and we look forward to you proudly representing Ballarat District Golf and our 20 affiliated clubs.
