With only a short time to organize the event (and a limited number of courses in good condition) Maryborough Gold Club graciously offered to host the day, and the only negative from the whole event was the low number of applicants, which was to be expected from both the limited advertising time and the AFL finals.
A big thankyou needs to go Maryborough Golf Club and their committee (specifically Greg Murphy, Dan Leddin and Lee-Anne Burt) who couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating - they organized a BBQ, pre entered all the GolfLink Numbers into the computer, checked cards and calculated all the results on the day.
With the added advantage of the first “real day of spring” weather, the golf course was in flawless condition, it made the day a perfect warm-up for the Country Week Team to sharpen their game a few weeks before they begin the defense of their title.
Travis Tatt led the closely bunched field at the halftime break, but an outstanding Course Record equaling 67 by local player Gary Sluce in the afternoon round saw him distance himself from the pack, and record a comfortable 4 stroke victory.
